ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW BOARD MEETING 

 

June 15, 2005

 

 

      The meeting was called to order by Chairman Barnell Albers at 5:35 p.m. in the Town Office.

      Board members present were: Chairman Barnell Albers, Bill Zeltwanger, and Jaquelyn Ditsler. Members Billy Howk and Charlie Anderson were absent.

      City Secretary, Linda Suggs, read the minutes of the April 17, 2005 meeting. Motion by Ditsler to approve the minutes as read; second by Zeltwanger. Motion passed with all in favor.

      The Board considered the following items:

•1.      Tennis court lights at 517 East Mill Street: Clare Johnson and her attorney, Laura Upchurch, were present to represent this item. The Board reviewed past action and the items in the letter from Ms. Upchurch dated May 10, 2005. Ditsler asked Ms. Johnson what action she would like to see taken. Ms. Johnson replied that she would like to have been consulted on the placement of the tennis court, and that she wants the fence and lights removed and a barrier screen planted.  Motion by Zeltwanger to instruct the owner to remove the lights and bring the fence into compliance by June 1, 2005; second by Ditsler. Motion passed with all in favor. Mrs. Suggs was instructed to send a certified letter to Mr. Douglas informing him of the Board's decision.

      A discussion ensued on the application of the ordinance.

•2.      Construction of garage at 441 East Mill Street: The Board studied the submitted drawings. Zeltwanger stated that it is a metal building and will be hidden from the road. Motion by Zeltwanger to approve the permit to construct a 30' x 60' garage at 441 East Mill Street, with the following conditions:

  • 1) that the pitch of the roof be changed to a minimum of 8/12 to comply with the Land Use Ordinance;
  • 2) that the specific materials be approved by the Building Official; and
  • 3) that the colors be approved by the Building Official.

Second by Howk. Motion passed with all in favor.

•3.      Definitions of "front yard", "side yard", and "rear yard": The Board decided that these would be defined as:

  • a. Front yard: The yard in front of the main entrance to the building.
  • b. Side yard: The yard along the side of the building adjacent to the main entrance
  • c. Rear yard: The yard on the opposite side of the building as the main entrance.

     

      Meeting adjourned at 6:45 p.m.
